a climate which no longer agrees with me. It is a fact well known to residents in South China and the Philippine Islands that the climate in that part of the world has a peculiar effect upon the nervous system of many poeple, and, though I escaped its evil effects for nearly ten years, I at last succumbed to them.

29. It is for these reasons that I beg for a reconsidera- -tion of the decision arrived at, and communicated to me in your letters, No: 1875/1912 of 27 January, and No. 13817/1912 of 10 May, and that the Right Honourable the Secretary of State for the Colo- -nies will be able to see his way to appointing me to some post in a locality other than the Far East, (e.g. an Administratorship in the West Indies, or a Commissionership in Cyprus, or elsewhere), where the climate does not possess the peculiarities which so adversely affect me in the post which I now hold, and where I shall be able to give my best services, unimpeded, to the State.

I may mention that I hold excellent recommendations from all three Colonial Governors under whom I have served, as well as from all the Admirals and Captains E.N. with whom I was associated during my service in the Royal Navy.

I have the honour to be

Sir,

your most obedient servant

Basil Daylon
